3 THINGS TO WATCH

- — Godwin Kelly, godwin. kelly@news-jrnl.com

1. Eyes on guys

All eyes will be on the four guys racing for the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship at HomesteadMiami Speedway. Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch will conduct a four-way battle for title honors as the other 36 drivers go for the race win. Remember, the highest finishing Chase driver wins the title, which means 37th place could produce a championship. No kidding.

2. Closing arguments

All four Chase drivers have compelling arguments to be NASCAR Cup Series champion. Johnson has six titles, and a seventh would tie him with Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty atop the all-time list. Busch won it last year, so he has the most recent experience. Logano has won two races in the past four weeks, so he’s on a hot streak. Edwards has finished second twice in points and needs no motivation to press forward.

3. Goodbye, guys

The Ford EcoBoost 400 will be the last Cup Series race for three-time champion Tony Stewart, who announced his retirement at the end of the 2015 season, and Brian Scott, who is calling it quits after 53 starts, citing the need to spend more time with family. Scott has one top-five finish on his Cup record; when he finished second to Logano at Talladega in October. We’ll miss you, Brian Scott, even though we hardly knew you.
