Driverless is the future, not LRT

RE: LRT in Hamilton

-

The first $1 billion for the LRT will not be the only money needed. Much more for added destinations and adjustments will undoubtedly be taxed to us. And grabbing the $1 billion just because “if we don’t take it someone else will” is not mature thinking.

When all the disruption of construction is done other methods of moving people such as driverless taxis will be upon us.

Driverless taxis will revolutionize people movement. Most people will be able to forgo buying, insuring and maintaining their own vehicle and much real estate will be freed up due to the unneeded parking on streets and driveways and shopping places. And public and commercial buildings will have all the old parking lots to sell or use for expansion.

That is something to look forward to and it probably won’t need $1 billion. It promises instead to cut people’s property and our transportation expenses significantly. Then we will have the headache and expenses to rid our streets of the cursed rail tracks which are slippery for car tires and a nuisance to people crossing the road. Barry Campbell, Glanbrook
