There’s something about Sudbury for Trent Fox.

The lanky winger from Chatham scored the winner and his first goal in 13 games as his Hamilton Bulldogs dropped the host Wolves 3-1 Friday. Fox, who led the club with 28 goals last season, hadn’t scored since Oct. 14. It was his third goal in 21 games this campaign.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring late in the first when Michael Cramarossa forced a turnover in the Sudbury zone and found Grimsby’s Brandon Saigeon alone in the slot. Less than a minute into the second, Liam Dunda — another Grimsby native — evened the score on a slick pass from Kyle Capobianco who feigned the shot.

The Bulldogs responded quickly, however, with Fox and Connor Walters beating Jake McGrath before the midway mark. Sudbury had an opportunity to come back on a pair of lategame power plays — Hamilton went into the game tied for the worst penalty kill in the OHL — but couldn’t put the puck past Kaden Fulcher, who had 25 saves.

The Bulldogs, who now lead their four-game season series with Sudbury 2-1, went into the game — and came out of it — in third place in the Eastern Conference. The Wolves were six points back in seventh. With the win, they improve to 12-6-3-0 overall and 8-40-0 on the road — a record that puts them near the top of the league away from home.

Hamilton, which has now won two straight, continues its northern swing with a game against Sault Ste. Marie Saturday. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
