Anne Jones deserve the accolades

RE: Queen Anne carries on — and surrenders a secret (Dec. 6)

It seems ‘way back when’ that I met her. At the Hamilton Bridge Centre, she was such a bright shining light. Even then, dealing cards, bidding and playing with finesse, she was so willing to learn in addition to assisting others. Avid player that I was, occasionally I organized in-home two- or three bridge-table games. Anne came to my Burlington seniors’ complex ... with her bubbly personality spirited by her positive mind and attitude. Keen to improve her game, a couple times she invited a group of us to socialize and ‘bridge’ the afternoon away at her Paisley North home in Hamilton. Such a pleasure, as we dined on gourmet treats and sweets with coffee or tea ... or was it sherry?

The title of this column was appropriate. ‘Queen Anne! ...’ For years she has been an inspiration. To quote Paul Wilson in his writing about Anne’s life, this significant philosophy of hers can be practised by us all: “She asks questions. She listens.”

Her mantra throughout the several years of service to the community must certainly have been: “Almost every successful person begins with two beliefs. The future can be better than the present. I have the power to make it so!” Congratulations, Anne for a wonderful life ... and may you remain healthy to celebrate being a centenarian. Merle Baird-Kerr, Burlington
