Those who attack Trump backers are bigots

-

RE: Trump-hat judge declared his support for him (Dec. 5)

Bigoted: “having or revealing an obstinate belief in the superiority of one’s own opinions and a prejudiced intolerance of the opinions of others.” Oxford Living Dictionaries.

The best examples of bigotry currently are those who attack everyone who supports Trump as “promoting a political agenda founded in bigotry, misogyny, antiSemitism, Islamaphobia.”

It may be true that Trump is those things, but that doesn’t make all 61,943,670 people who voted for Trump “racist, homophobic and misogynist” as so many have said. The 42 per cent of women who voted for Trump. All misogynists?

The election was not a referendum on these topics. Many people voted for Trump because of his economic promises.

Many voted for him because he was Republican. That doesn’t make them a clone of Trump, or prove that they agree with his every statement.

Does everyone who voted for Trudeau agree with him on pipelines, arms sales to Saudi Arabia, praise for Castro, trade with China?

Does everyone who voted for Oosterhoff agree with him on abortion?

The fact that someone shows support for a legally elected politician does not make them a bigot. Being intolerant to everyone who exercised their democratic right to vote for Trump because they don’t agree with you, does however, make you a bigot.

Zabel should be evaluated on his decisions as a judge. A lifetime of service should not be thrown away because anti-Trump bigots are simply louder than everyone else. Lee Fairbanks, Hamilton
