Who needs our compassion here and now?

RE: Things have changed for refugees (March 3)

The letter writer implies the situation of post-Second World War European immigrants is comparable to that of current Middle Eastern, African and Asian refugees. He demands Canada treat both groups the same way.

Please, let’s all remember that those European immigrants (of which I am one) came of their own accord — granted, with ‘one suitcase’ — to make a better life for themselves and their families, whereas current refugees are fleeing war zones with often little but their clothes on their backs and their children in their arms.

Who needs our acceptance and compassion here and now? Just wondering. Anna Schafer, Dundas
