Dreamers like I am

- KATE BECKETT, GRADE 7 FLAMBOROUGH CENTRE

Dreams. I had one, we all have one. Black. White. What’s the difference? There isn’t one! Why can’t you accept that? You make it so difficult. Not only for me. For everyone like me. You think I’m different. I’m not! I’m just like you. Yes, that has stopped me. It stopped me for a long time. Soon I realized. I realized that I’m not the only one. But no one is doing anything. Not even attempting. So I will. I will start. I will speak. My dream. People listening. Then more. More and more. Soon thousands would be listening. Listening about human rights. Rights for all! All the black children and all the white children, becoming friends. Treated equal. Drink from the same fountains as others. Use the same washrooms as others. We are the same! Thoughts. Some would listen. Others wouldn’t. I dream of it. Every morning. Every night. Sometimes my silent secret thoughts would creep into my brain.
