Police are investigating another attempted carjacking of a senior in the same Ancaster mall parking lot where a woman in her 80s was robbed at gunpoint last week.

Hamilton police said a woman in her 70s was entering her vehicle in the Meadowlands mall parking lot near Pet Smart Monday around 1:30 p.m. when a young man got into the back seat.

The woman jumped out and screamed for help. Bystanders came to her aid and the young man, described as around 17 years old with light-coloured skin and grey jogging pants, ran away through the south end of the parking lot.

No weapon was seen, but police called the suspect “armed and dangerous” in a release.

On Thursday, a woman in her 80s got into her vehicle in the parking lot near Best Buy around 3:45 p.m. and found a young man waiting in the back seat with a gun.

He allegedly pointed a gun at her and demanded she drive him around while he rummaged through her purse and then made her withdraw cash from a bank machine.

At one point, he told her to move into the passenger seat and he drove around the city, before exiting the vehicle at Rebecca and Mary streets.

Police said a similar, unsuccessful robbery attempt occurred earlier that day, as well.

No one was injured in any of the incidents.

Police have released images of last week’s suspected carjacker, who was described as between 16 and 18, Middle Eastern or white, five-foot-seven, with a thin build, thin face and patch of facial hair below his bottom lip. He was wearing skinny jogging pants, a red-andblack hoodie and white running shoes at the time of the crime.

The gun was described as “black, snub-nosed.”
