The end didn’t justify the means

RE: Mac protesters were defending their principles (April 15)

-

This is a sad attempt to rationalize some very bad behaviour. My son attended Jordan Peterson’s talk out of academic interest. One should be able to do this at a university. A protester repeatedly blew an air horn directly behind his ears despite his request for them to stop. What about his “safe space?” The protesters repeatedly chanted vulgarities. They threw glitter on Peterson. Professor Peterson’s calm response was to offer them the microphone to engage in a real discussion, but they declined. Just as the McMaster professors invited to have a “nuanced conversation about freedom and responsibility” did earlier in the week.

Call a spade a spade — these were guerrilla tactics and an embarrassment to their cause and the university. The end does not justify the means. David Robinson, Hamilton
