KITCHENER — Waterloo Regional Police are looking for a 24-year-old Hamilton man in connection with the death of a Kitchener woman Friday.

Police were called to an apartment building at 38 Country Hill Dr., near Block Line Road, around 3 a.m. Friday and found the woman’s body inside her apartment. They have identified her as 22year-old Melinda Vasilije.

Ager Mohsin Hasan from Hamilton is sought in connection with her death. Police believe he was in contact with Vasilije that evening. They also say the two were known to each other and the incident was targeted.

Authorities believe Hasan’s vehicle was seen crossing into the U.S. at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. Insp. Mike Haffner said they are working with American law enforcement to determine his whereabouts.

“We believe that he is responsible for the death,” Haffner said Friday.

Police believe Hasan was driving a black Honda HR-V with an Ontario licence plate number of BPKT509. Anyone who knows of Hasan’s whereabouts is asked to call police.

By Friday afternoon, officers were still on scene outside the lowrise, three-storey apartment building. The front entrance to the building was cordoned off with police tape. It was quiet.

Neighbours who knew Vasilije remember her as a sweet, kind person. “She was friendly, she always said hi in the hallway,” said Becky Green. She described Vasilije as a “family oriented” person.

Green said she didn’t hear anything in the early hours of the morning when police arrived on scene. She was devastated.

“She was a beautiful person and this shouldn’t have happened to her.”

Authorities say they will wait for an autopsy to determine the cause of Vasilije’s death.
