Another rescue call at Albion Falls
Firefighters responded to another incident at Albion Falls Tuesday afternoon. This time, nobody was hurt.
A hiker at the popular east Mountain natural area was safe, but felt unable to proceed on a trail in any direction, fire department spokesperson Claudio Mostacci said. “The person was asking for assistance but this was not the result of a fall,” said Mostacci. “They are stuck on the trail.”
On June 10, a man in his 20s fell to his death from a cliff at Albion Falls. Public officials are exploring ways to make the deep gorge safer for visitors amid its soaring popularity.
Frequent rope-rescue call concerns about emergency access spurred the Hamilton Conservation Authority to close its Webster’s and Tew’s Falls parking lots on summer weekends this year and introduce a visitor shuttle instead.
The change is meant to help control visitor numbers to the ecologically sensitive Spencer Gorge and dissuade parking problems at or near the falls.
