Suspect in Kitchener murder resurfaces on social media
Waterloo Regional Police are investigating whether accused killer Ager Mohsin Hasan posted comments online saying he “regrets everything negative I ever did to you.”
At least three posts were placed on Instagram on Monday night.
Waterloo Region police spokesperson Cherri Greeno said police are aware of the posts and looking into the authenticity of the comments to see if they are indeed Hasan.
The Hamilton man is charged with murder in connection with the April 28 death of 22-year-old Melinda Vasilije of Kitchener.
In the post, a man claiming to be Hasan says, “I regret everything negative I ever did to you.”
The post also tells family and friends not to comment and not to like any of the photos.
Hasan, 24, was last spotted in Tennessee in May when he was seen having a conversation with someone who recognized him as a wanted man. He faces a second-degree murder charge in connection to Vasilije’s death on April 28. He fled to the United States that same day.
Greeno said police have “ongoing” contact with Hasan, but only sporadically, via email.
Police believe Hasan remains in the U.S., although there was some concern he could have been headed to the Mexican border.
In the online post, the person claiming to be Hasan suggests his image was altered and stories are untrue of him headed to Mexico.
He said law enforcement was “making the situation worse than it is. If I wanted to be there and vanish for good, I would, but I don’t.”
Officers are using social media platforms to put out Hasan’s photograph and description.
Greeno said police have received some tips from their social media campaign.
“A family in our community has tragically lost their daughter,” she said. “We are trying to bring the person responsible for this tragedy to justice so the family and the community can be provided with some type of closure.”
Vasilije was found dead in her apartment on Country Hill Drive. The cause of death was multiple stab wounds.
Vasilije and Hasan had been in a relationship for about a year.
Hasan’s previously last known reported whereabouts were in Erie County, Pa., on April 28, where a man matching his description was seen switching licence plates in a Walmart parking lot.
Video shows a man removing a Pennsylvania licence plate from a parked vehicle with the number EZV1654 and a police medallion attached to it, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The man was then seen attaching the stolen licence plate to a black Honda HR-V. Police are looking for a black Honda HR-V with two possible licence plates. The other one is an Ontario plate, BPKT509.
Hasan also faces three counts of breach of recognizance for an alleged break-andenter and alleged assaults at Vasilije’s Kitchener apartment on April 3. Police have said Vasilije was not a victim of the alleged assaults.
Hasan was under a court order to stay out of Waterloo Region and to not contact Vasilije.
