A welcome plan for LRT

RE: Coun. Green pushes for new LRT deal for HSR (June 5)

Thank you, Coun. Green, for offering some hope to people opposed to the LRT. Perhaps if we have to have it and it’s run by HSR instead, it will remain (semi) accessible and outright affordable to everyone.

If it’s run by Metrolinx, in contrast, they’ll probably want to jack up fares, making it harder for people to afford necessary travel to get where they’re going. Obviously, no matter who winds up operating the vehicles, they won’t be as accessible to people with physical difficulties since they won’t have floors you can lower and there will be longer distances between stops (which will affect everyone since we won’t have many places to wait when the weather’s drastic).

May your proposition meet success, Mr. Green. Anything that can, even slightly, ease the agony of our transition to LRT (if we absolutely have to have it) is very welcome. Amy Soule, Hamilton
