The weekend is promising to be a last gasp at summer as we hurl toward crisp autumn days. You’ll need to keep the sunscreen and a water bottle in hand if you venture to the Telling Tales Festival, a fall fair or any of the Terry Fox runs. It’s your weekend. Make it last. Westfield Heritage Village presents the Telling Tales Festival on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gates open at 9:30. The day is packed full of exhibitors, presenters and contests. Bring some books and take part in the book swap. Admission and parking are free. Parking is at the Rockton Fairground­s only, 812 Old Hwy 8 in Rockton. A free shuttle will travel pack and forth from the fairground­s to Westfield. You may want to bring a blanket, lawn chairs, lunch or snacks. A reusable water bottle that can be filled a the Quench Buggy is also good idea. There will be a book swap and shop, so bring a few gently used children’s books to donate. No pets are allowed on the day of the festival. W. Enjoy the efforts and rewards of area gardeners at this year’s annual show. The show runs Saturday, 1 to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be a bloom auction at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. www.rbg.ca Fill that garden with some treasures from the Flamboroug­h Horticultu­ral Society Fall Plant Sale. See Burlington’s past come to life at Ireland House Museum’s Applefest Fall Fair on Sunday. The free event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Along with tours of the museum, visitors will enjoy live entertainm­ent, a hay maze, petting zoo, pony rides, antique cars, fire trucks, food, vendors and workshops. Parking is available at M.M. Robinson High School, 2425 Upper Middle Rd. There is no parking on-site. Arrr! Shiver me timbers! Ever wanted to learn how to swordfight like an old salty dog, run in a scavenger hunt, or just dress like a pirate? The Hamilton Children’s Museum, 1072 Main St. E., is celebratin­g Internatio­nal Talk Like a Pirate Day and hopes curious kids will come to explore, invent and imagine on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dress like a pirate and get free admission. 905-546-4848. The annual Burlington Lifestyle Home Show is back at Mainway Recreation Centre on Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show features many exhibitors, hundreds of new products, lots of prizes and free draws. Hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Friday; 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission to evening shows is $15. Daytime admission is $10; ages 13 to 18 $8; $4 for children six to 12; and free for children five and younger. A weekend pass is $30. Parking inside the gates is $5.
