-

The Hamilton police collision reconstruction unit is investigating a crash in a Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot that left an 80-year-old man with serious injuries.

The man was struck shortly before 6:20 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot at 630 King St. W., at Dundurn Street North, by a pick up truck that was reversing in the lot, police said. The senior was using a walker and had just left the drugstore.

Police said the 39-year-old driver of the pick up was reversing at a minimum speed from a parking spot when the back of his truck hit the 80-year-old. He was knocked to the ground and suffered a broken hip.

The man was transported to hospital where his condition has since been downgraded to serious, but stable. Police said charges are not expected.
