Splash and spray pads reopened as heat wave will make it feel like 40 C
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Hamilton, Niagara, Halton and surrounding areas.
The alert issued around 3:30 p.m. Friday comes on the first day of fall and following what was generally a wettish and cooler summer.
Environment Canada warns temperatures and humidity are expected to rise over the weekend, with a forecast approaching, with humidity, to a comfort level simulating 40 C Saturday and Sunday.
“The unseasonably warm temperatures and humidity are likely to persist into early next week,” the warning reads.
Young children, pregnant women, older people and those with chronic illnesses are at greatest risk of being affected by extreme heat.
The city of Hamilton has opened a number of spray pads for the unseasonably warm weather. Open spray pads include Churchill Park, Dundas Driving Park, Gage Park, Pier 4 Park, Victoria Park, Village Green Park and others.
