Man-made warming a scientific fact

RE: It’s man-made climate change I question (Nov. 1)

The writer is wrong. The science is clear that manmade global warming is happening and is not a hoax. What sources did he use to justify his belief ? Was it S. Fred Singer (most deniers love this guy)? If so, he might want to rethink his arguments.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) periodically issues assessment reports. The fifth report (AR5) was completed in 2014. Science tells us that the Earth’s climate is warming and it is mostly due to man’s recent activities. Here are a few of its conclusions:

• Warming of the climate system is unequivocal and, since the 1950s, many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia.

• Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide have increased to levels unprecedented in at least the last 800,000 years.

• It is extremely likely (95-100 per cent probability) that human influence was the dominant cause of global warming between 1951 and 2010.

• Increasing magnitudes of warming increase the likelihood of severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts.

• A first step toward adaptation to future climate change is reducing vulnerability and exposure to present climate variability.

Yes, evolution is a scientific fact, we live in a heliocentric system, the earth is not flat and man-made global warming is a scientific fact. Rex Meade, Dundas
