RE: College strike

Getting back into action after a lengthy labour disruption can be difficult for any organization. Putting together an engaging and positive open house so quickly after staff returned to work was no doubt a daunting task for the staff, faculty, and students of Mohawk College. Mohawk College did an outstanding job holding a highly informative and engaging open house at its Main Fennel Campus on Saturday, December 9th.

My husband, son, and I attended to see what program options were available for post-secondary education. We had already visited a few university open houses, and while they were fine, they lacked the personalization or specific information we were hoping for. Immediately upon emerging from our car on Saturday, we were greeted by a volunteer who cheerfully directed us to the open house event. As we walked through the David Braley Recreation Complex, we were greeted by many more very sharp looking student volunteers. We were impressed by the fitness facilities and how modern everything was.

As we approached the booth of the programs our son is applying to, we were greeted by two professors and a student ambassador currently enrolled in one of the programs. They took so much time explaining the programs to our son. They answered his questions and asked a few of their own. They showed him the detailed course outline. We were then invited to one of the labs to learn about wireless technology. Overall, the staff must have spent at least an hour with us explaining every facet of the program.

We were highly impressed not just by the facility, but also by the passion of the staff and study body. Our son is hopeful he will be a Mountaineer this time next year! Nanci Simpson, Hamilton
