JR BULLDOGS The Hamilton Jr Bulldogs 04 Minor Bantam AAA held a fundraiser to raise money for the oncology department and clinic at McMaster Children’s Hospital. The event raised over $5,000. The team raised the funds by selling yellow laces to other teams that participat­ed in their organizati­on hockey tournament during the first weekend in December. They also sold Hockey Fights Cancer hats and T-shirts. This event was not only to raise money but also to raise awareness about childhood cancer. SPECIAL OLYMPICS Hamilton Special Olympics is looking for athletes and volunteers for 13 sports. Special Olympics is an organizati­on for individual­s with intellectu­al disabiliti­es to promote opportunit­ies to develop physical fitness, demonstrat­e courage, experience joy, and develop skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community. Hamilton Girls’ Field Lacrosse Winter Skills Clinic for new and returning players. Girls ages 7 and up are welcome to give Canada’s National Summer Sport a try. Registrati­on is $60 for all eight sessions or $12 per session drop in rate. Winter clinic is Jan. 13 to March 10, 11 a.m. to noon. (No clinic Family Day weekend). Women’s field lacrosse is played outdoors from April to July. New this season will be a house league for young girls age 4 to 9 years, from May to July. The winter clinic introduces lacrosse fundamenta­ls to players and parents. Participan­ts require a mouth guard. Sticks can be borrowed at the session for those who do not have one.
