One lane of Red Hill off-ramp reopens

-

The City of Hamilton has reopened one of the lanes on the Red Hill Valley Parkway’s southbound off-ramp at King Street East after closing them last week because of erosion.

As of Friday, motorists could once again use the left lane of the off-ramp.

The curb lane will remain closed while engineers prepare a design and repair the bridge structure.

The city said it doesn’t yet have a timeline for how long the closure will be in place.

The city closed the entire offramp April 13 because of erosion around one of the parapet walls adjacent to the Red Hill Creek.

While the ramp was closed, the city conducted an urgent assessment of the bridge structure.

Last week, city operations head Betty Matthews-Malone said a member of the public sent photos of the erosion. “It was identified in our inspections, but it appears that there’s been a fairly recent failure there.”
