They won’t be running at Merrittville after all

- TIM MILLER

Opening day at the Merrittville Speedway has been moved from this Saturday to April 28.

The Semenuk’s Esso Patriot Sprint Tour Spring Sizzle, which was to open the 2018 season on the Niagara dirt oval, has been postponed due to poor weather conditions.

The event was to feature a visit from the Patriot Sprint Cars as well as racing in the track’s 358 Modified, Sportsman and Fourcylinder divisions.

“The overnight lows from the last few days and those predicted for the next couple of days are keeping the grounds frozen,” said Merrittville race director Tom Beales.

“We’re expecting the grounds to thaw Saturday as the temperatures begin to rise and that will make both the parking lot and pit areas usable.”

Merrittville is now planning to hold its first show April 28 to open its 67th season of racing.

There will be six divisions of racing ,starting at 7 p.m. Along with the Modifieds, Sportsman and Four cylinders, there will be action with the Stocks, Mod Lites
