-

July 11, 1926 - April 26, 2018 Passed away with dignity at the Hamilton General Hospital on Thursday, April 26, 2018 in his 92nd year. In the days and hours before his passing, Socrate was surrounded by his loving family. Cherished husband of Lida (née Sartor). Dedicated father of Ernie (Sally) and Gary (Marcy). Adored Nonno of Alexis (Steven), Sarah (Kiel), Carmen (Zach), and Mia. Proud Bisnonno to Jadon, Aurora, Rylan, and Callum. Socrate, the 14th of 15 brothers and sisters, was the last surviving sibling. Survived by his sisters-in-law Mariangela (Renzo dec.), Pierina(Pat) (Joe dec.), and Franca (Armando) and many, many loving nieces and nephews in Canada and throughout Europe. Socrate was a fiercely proud Canadian citizen, a charming man of strong character and conviction, well-read and informed, who loved to engage in spirited debate. He delighted in being extremely generous to his family members. He had been part owner of the Venetian Market on Kenilworth Ave. as well as owning several other family variety stores in Windsor and Hamilton. The family lived predominantly in the east end of Hamilton, where Socrate became a fixture on his long walks. Many thanks for the continued support from the neighbours at Shamrock Gardens. The family is thankful for the compassionate, dignified care provided by the Stroke Unit, Seven South, Hamilton General Hospital. Cremation has taken place. As per Socrate’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 120 Parkdale Ave. S at Queenston Rd. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. A Reception at Knights of Columbus Hall, next door, will follow. If desired, memorial contributions to Breathe: The Lung Association, would be sincerely appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers.
