-

Died at the Brantford General Hospital CCU, on April 26, 2018 due to complications following a brief bout of pneumonia. He was 85. Gerry was born on October 22, 1932 in Evangaline, NB to parents, William and Bertha (Bourgeois) Caissie. Gerry was looked up to by many for what he accomplished against so many obstacles in life and not blaming others as a result of a serious illness in early childhood. He graduated from Minto Memorial High School Commercial Department in 1955. In 1956 Gerry moved to Hamilton, ON. In 1963 he met Sheila Sampson and they married in 1965. The couple had two children. Gerry worked as a Payroll Administrator from 1966 until 1981 at Westeel Rosco Limited. He took early retirement then and dedicated his time to family, which in later years included grandchildren and greatgrandchildren whom he was fiercely proud of. Gerry was very patient and caring with a passion for hockey. He loved watching his Montreal Canadiens play the Toronto Maple Leafs and enjoyed teasing any Leafs fans when Montreal won. Gerry also enjoyed his volunteer work at Welcome Inn Community Centre Seniors Program in North Hamilton. Gerry is survived by his wife Sheila; his daughter and her partner, Marion Bowman and Mj Dann of Brantford, ON; his son Stephen Caissie and his wife Cathy Mark of Toronto, ON; his brothers Omer and Ed; his sisters Annie, Laura, Hilda, Jane and Mary; many sisters- and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles with special mention of his Uncle George Bourgeois with whom he was very close, being only 9 months apart in age; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law; his sister Rose and her husband Stefan; his brother Raymond; and his grandson Wayne Jr. A memorial service will take place on May 4, 2018 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Chapel, 620 Governors Rd. E., Paris ON, N3L 3E1. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gerry’s life. Gerry will be buried in a private ceremony at a later date.
