HORWATH AND THE LRT DEBATE: TWITTER REACTS

- — Former city councillor Brad Clark (@clark_bv ) — Matt Jelly (@mattjelly) — Mark Hill (@Inhocmark) — Arnold deVries (@bigkeeper13) ereilly@thespec.com 905-526-2452 | @EmmaatTheSpec

Horwath’s comments about LRT drew swift reactions online, many from LRT supporters. Here’s an excerpt of those conversations: “I can’t see this policy-shift/policy-reaffirmation impacting Andrea’s votes in Hamilton Centre. But, it sure caused twitter followers to “tweet out.” It also reveals that the NDP might not be as resolute on their policies, as they claim. Fascinating 24 hours in the Hammer.” “Reading Horwath’s comments in the Spec make this especially disappointing, because the position is premised on the giant

and that he’s satisfied that Horwath’s pro-LRT statement is enough to keep council on the LRT track.

“I’m not here to say that it didn’t raise my eyebrow. It didn’t ring true to me in terms of where she’s been all along,” he said.

“I don’t think it changes anything honking lie that council never had a say. Council had years and plenty of latitude and begged for LRT, unanimously at one point.” “She is in essence muddying the waters and allowing the foes of transit more ammunition in the coming City Vote. This is an absolutely kick in the gut for Hamilton transit. It is Andrea who is unfortunately pandering at this point.” “Pandering. Not sure I agree, but okay, but aren’t they all pandering? Tax cuts here, day care here, gas tax cuts........” among our council colleagues.”
