spice.

Perking up the dish further and adding a bit of creamy richness was a fantastic yogurt cucumber sauce (Maast-O-Khlar). It was chock full of herbs and added dimension to both dishes.

I would’ve happily eaten it plain and was delighted we had some left over to take home.

In addition, there was a container full of Shirazi salad — a mix of cucumber, tomatoes and onions that served as a nice, light complement to the heavier foods. Fresh, clean veggie flavours, brightened with lemon.

The other main dish was Khorosht-e Gheymeh, a lovely warm split pea stew with beef that was somehow light yet comforting. It had subtle spices and dried lime, and though not exactly complex it was satisfying.

Between Darband and south Burlington’s delightful Rayhoon, I have had my eyes opened to Persian cuisine and am fast becoming a fan.

Darband is the quick pickup version and succeeds within that realm. I do wish, however, that with so many take-away containers they had recycling available.

I will be trying the chicken wrap when I next visit — with plenty of yogurt sauce.
