Magical gastronomy tour

Diners who’d like to taste their way through what downtown Burlington has to offer might consider going on a food tour, sampling some of the city’s cuisine. Each Burlington Food Tour stops at five to six restaurant­s, allowing participan­ts to meet the chefs, try dishes and, ideally, discover new favourite spots. Tours run on select dates between May and October from 2 to 5 p.m. There’s even a designated vegetarian tour in August. The cost is $70, with each tour limited to 20 participan­ts. Whisky tasting, wine not?

Fans of whisky or wine will be equally served at Burlington’s Ireland House Museum on June 8, as the facility hosts a tasting event featuring both. For the $75 ticket (which includes a $30 tax receipt), patrons will receive a welcome drink, hors d’oeuvre, a scotch or wine tasting and a coffee and dessert bar. The wine session will be led by Holly Veitch of Kacaba Vineyards and Winery of Niagara, while sales rep Cameron Millar will take patrons through the fine details of nosing, chewing and drinking scotch.

Street food and soul downtown

King William Street will be shut down for a party June 9, featuring “live jazz and soul performanc­es, interactiv­e art installati­ons, a Collective Arts beer tent, and street food from King William’s vast array of restaurant­s,” according to Tourism Hamilton’s website. The site says that “Soul Saturday” will start at 1 p.m. and run until 9 p.m., with road closures on King William between James and John streets and on Hughson between King and Rebecca.
