Blaze destroys home in Binbrook
Damage estimated at $1 million; cause believed to be electrical problem
home in Binbrook is a “complete loss” after it was consumed by fire.
“It’s not habitable at this time and the roof has completely collapsed,” fire information officer Claudio Mostacci said after the Monday afternoon blaze.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the home at 44 Pavilion Dr. when they reached the new subdivision around 1 p.m. The home is north of Binbrook Road and Fairground Community Park. Nobody was in the twostorey home at the time. The fire “quickly escalated” to the second floor and roof, making it too risky for firefighters to stay inside, Mostacci said. A large contingent of volunteers and regular firefighters managed to limit the fire to the one house. But there was some minor damage on neighbouring homes, including singed vinyl siding and roof shingles, and an above ground pool. Overall, the dollar loss is around $1 million, Mostacci said. The OntaA rio Fire Marshal has been called to investigate because of the considerable damage. It’s believed the fire started on the back deck due to an electrical problem and spread inside, Mostacci said.
“Unfortunately, the owners were quite devastated when they arrived.”
Two firefighters were hurt during the blaze. One was treated on the scene for an ankle injury while at the scene. Another was treated for minor burns to his neck in hospital. He was later released and returned to duty.
