Second Hamilton man charged in violent Aldershot home invasion
A second Hamilton man has been charged in connection with a violent home invasion that saw two seniors targeted in their Burlington home.
On April 25, around 10:30 p.m., two men entered a home on Bonnieview Avenue in Aldershot through an unlocked back door, said Halton police. One was armed with a handgun and the other with bear or pepper spray.
The pair confronted the two homeowners, a 74-year-old woman and 64-year-old man, spraying the noxious substance and prodding them, said Det. Sgt. Ron Hansen, of the Burlington Criminal Investigations Bureau.
They demanded the seniors’ bank cards and PIN numbers, before forcing them into a bathroom, he said. The suspects then went through the house looking for valuables, stealing electronics and a purse before fleeing in the family car — later recovered in Hamilton.
Hansen said the home invasion was targeted, as one of the accused — the 41-year-old Hamilton man arrested last month — had previously been invited into the home and knew the property.
Police identified the first suspect after a man was captured on surveillance video allegedly fraudulently using the couple’s credit card.
On May 5, police arrested Thomas Allan Edgar, 41, of Hamilton. On June 24, police arrested Justin Douglas Roache, 30, of Hamilton.
They are each facing charges of robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit robbery, two counts of pointing a firearm, two counts of administering a noxious substance, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of forcible confinement and failing to comply with probation.
