(May 9, 1922- September 29, 2018) Max Mintz, passed away in his 97th year, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Max leaves behind his beautiful wife of 72 years, Samieth, his four daughters and their spouses; Joanne and Ronnie Schwarz; Sharon and Peter Danson; Nancy Mintz; Cynthia Mintz and Robert Wasserman. He adored his grandchild­ren, and greatgrand­children; Marta, Jay, Ben and Jack Basian; Jonathan, Jessica, Kaylee and Ty Kudlats; Natasha Danson and Elliot Wakeam, Jeffrey Danson; Michael Schwarz and Kayla Shapiro, David, Jackie and Hallie Schwarz, and Danielle Schwarz. He is survived by his sister Faye Farber, and her children; his sister-in-law Milli Gould, Mark, and Ben Gould, and Amy Back. Predecease­d by parents, Morris and Mary Mintz, his sister Gert Sugarman and his brother Ben Mintz.

In 1948, Max and his beloved brother Ben moved to Hamilton and opened The Chicken Roost, which became an iconic family restaurant. His ambition and creativity led to Maxwell’s and The Colony restaurant­s, and Mintz Catering. Max took great pride and enjoyment in being a part of so many celebratio­ns as Hamilton’s favourite caterer. Whether it was a bar/bat mitzvah, wedding, corporate party - Max was part of everyone’s family in the Hamilton community. Max Mintz was a one of a kind personalit­y who will be greatly missed. Heartfelt thanks to Cristy, MC, Maria, Amy T, St. Elizabeth’s Homecare, Bayshore Palliative Care and all those who helped with his care.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, at 12:30 p.m, United Hebrew Memorial Chapel, 28 Ewen Road, Hamilton. Shiva to be held at 23 West Park Ave. Hamilton, Wednesday 7-9 p.m., Thursday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and Friday 2-4 p.m. Shiva continues at 185 Gordon Road, Toronto, Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Donations can be made to Shalom Village 905-529-1613 or Hamilton Community Foundation 905 523-5600.
