Don’t feed the birds in public space

RE: FINE-FEATHERED FRIENDS (OCT. 3)

The Hamilton Spectator - - Comment -

Why is The Spectator promoting the violation of Hamilton’s bylaws by publishing this picture as front-page news? Bylaw #12-130 prohibits the feeding of birds except on your own property. I enjoy birdwatching in my yard but have a problem with flocks of pigeons on the streets that leave disgusting messes on the ground and your clothes. Try walking under the bridge on the south-west corner of John and Hunter at the bus station. There are piles of smelly pigeon poop and you may get hit by some from the pigeons roosting above. Other cities are starting to fine people for feeding the pigeons. It’s time Hamilton did the same.

Linda Lister, Hamilton
