The promise of a January weekend includes sunshine, flurries and cold wind chills. Keep the cold in mind if you head out to the Mike Taylor tribute in Burlington’s Civic Square on Sunday, go ice skating by the waterfront or head to the Twenty Valley Winter Winefest. Here’s a list of things you can do over the weekend in the Hamilton area.

Walk Off The Earth

Walk Off The Earth’s memorial tribute concert for Mike (Beard Guy) Taylor with special guests is scheduled for Sunday, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Civic Square in downtown Burlington. The lineup includes acoustic performanc­es by Walk Off The Earth and members of Barenaked Ladies, Scott Helman, Monster Truck, USS, Darenots and Saint Alvia. Kelly’s Bake Shoppe will provide free hot chocolate. Expect road closures on Brant, James, Elgin and Ontario streets from 3 p.m. to midnight.

Bach Festival

Get to know the man and his music with the Hamilton Philharmon­ic Orchestra. This season’s Bach Festival starts Saturday with the Bach Community Recital, 2 p.m., at St. Paul’s United Church, 29 Park St. W., Dundas. The week of events features numerous Johann-inspired events including Bach Coffee House, Bach Happy Hour, and Lunch and Learn: Bach, His Life and Music. Winter and wine

Join the Twenty Valley Winter Winefest Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Jordan. Festivitie­s include tastings from 20 premium wineries. Free admission. Live music features local artists, wine and food sampling, fashion shows and winemakers challenges in the village. You can pick up tokens for food, beer, cocktails and wine during regular event hours at the event sales booth.

Bulldogs

Hamilton takes on the Kingston Frontenacs Saturday, 7 p.m., at FirstOntar­io Centre, 101 York Blvd. Tickets, $22 to $26, available at the box office.

Outdoor skating

The NHL-size rink at Hamilton Waterfront, 47 Discovery Dr., is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. Skate rentals are $9. Government ID is required. hamiltonwa­terfront.com

Burlington’s Rotary Centennial Pond ice pad, 1340 Lakeshore Rd., is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call the ice condition hotline at 905-335-7738 ext. 8587.
