Do not trivialize climate change

Canadian media treats climate change like it is a political football to be commented on by pundits rather than the most dangerous situation our species has faced in 1,000 generations. They offer quotes by deniers as often as scientists who have provided proof that it is not only a fact but it is happening right now as you read this.

Irresponsible politicians, either through ignorance, stupidity or political manoeuvring for votes, will say whatever their “base” wants them to say. These people are not leaders, they are charlatans who seek power at any cost. That cost may well be your children’s and grandchildren’s quality of life and their environmental safety.

Responsible media must join those of us who fear we will leave the next generations a very different and dangerous world to live in by refuting deniers with facts. Responsible media has an obligation and the privilege of providing their communities with factual information about what matters to them. The future of our planet should be at the top of the list.
