Police need help identifying hit-and-run vehicle
Hamilton police have released photos of a suspect vehicle wanted in a hit-and-run Friday night that sent a man to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The dark coloured, fourdoor SUV or full-sized vehicle is expected to have sustained extensive front-end and windshield damage in the collision around 9 p.m. Sept. 20. The 62year-old victim was crossing northbound in the crosswalk on Main Street East at Sanford Avenue South when he was hit by the eastbound vehicle, police said. The SUV fled and police are turning to the public to help find the vehicle and driver. Police initially did not know who the victim was, issuing a public appeal Saturday with a description of the senior. By Saturday night they had reached family and identified the man, who remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. The crash is under investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Const. Jaimi Bannon or Det. Const. Hendrik Vandercraats at 905-546-4753 or 905546-4755.
