Smith’s Funeral Homes and Stonehouse-Whitcomb Funeral Home

Celebrating 81 years of Service and Recognizing Student Excellence

-

In 1877, Edward Williamson owned an undertaking and cabinet-making firm in Burlington which was passed on to his son Edgar. By 1938, it had been purchased by Wilbert Smith who was assisted by his sister Jeanette- both licensed Funeral Directors. The funeral home was relocated to its present site on Brant Street in 1942, and was run by Wilbert, his wife, Kay and eventually his brother Stanley. As the business grew, their sons Don and Doug became involved, and Don continues to be active today. The family opened a second location on Guelph Line in 1996, and subsequently purchased Grimsby’s Stonehouse-Whitcomb Funeral Home in 2002, and the Stoney Creek Funeral Home in 2008.

Since 1938, our commitment to community service has been a hallmark of Smith’s. We are passionate about giving back to our communities by supporting numerous organizations and charities. Our High School Scholarship Program was started by Wilbert Smith 81 years ago, when just one secondary school served the community. Since then, we have been honoured to present an award annually to a graduating student at every high school in Burlington, Grimsby and Stoney Creek. It is our way of recognizing and celebrating commitment to excellence by the youth in our communities, who in their postsecondary education will be pursing a career helping and caring for others. Supporting people in their time of need will always be our focus, as will preserving our legacy and continually searching for ways to enhance our service to others.
