Police charged an Ancaster man with stunt driving after they nabbed him going 133 km/h in an 80 zone during an early-morning snowfall.

He had two kids in the car, police say.

In a release, police said on Thursday shortly before 7:30 a.m., officers spotted a black Nissan Rogue travelling “at a speed faster than the posted speed limit” on the Red Hill Valley Parkway near King Street.

Police determined he was going 133 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone — more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. Road conditions at the time were compromised by the ongoing snowfall.

The driver, a 40-year-old from Ancaster, is charged with stunt driving and speeding. He is expected to appear in court March 5.

The release states that stunt driving violations result in an immediate seven-day driver’s licence suspension and vehicle impoundment for the same period.

If found guilty, penalties for stunt driving could include a fine between $2,000 and $10,000, up to six months in jail and a two-year licence suspension, in accordance with the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

“Hamilton Police have taken a zero-tolerance approach to stunt driving and are reminding drivers to exercise extra caution during times of inclement weather,” the police release states.
