SUSAN IVANOVICS, YOUR HAMILTON CPA

-

When Susan Ivanovics first learned she had taken top place in the 2019 Hamilton Spectator’s Readers’ Choice awards, her first reaction was surprise. ‘I didn’t even know I had been nominated,” said Ivanovics in a recent interview.

Her second reaction was one of gratitude. The Diamond Award is extra significant because it means her clients took the time to nominate and vote for her as the best accountant in the city. That, she says, means more than anything, adding that she feels both humbled and honored.

Ivanovics has been an accountant serving the local community for over 20 years. She started out doing taxes for friends and family and eventually decided to take a six-month bookkeeping course at Mohawk College in 1998. At the time she was doing a lot of work with local restaurateurs and found that industry to be both challenging and exciting. “Restaurant owners are a different breed. It’s a volatile and sometimes difficult business to be in. I enjoyed working with them and helping their businesses to stay afloat.”

She didn’t dislike her work, but knew she wanted more. She pursued her Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting through a distance education program at Athabasca University in 2011 and then decided to obtain her accounting designation shortly after. She says she always had the goal of being self-employed and wanted to make things happen for herself… she hasn’t looked back since she took that leap in 2016.

Operating from her homebased office in Huntington Park, Ivanovics has garnered a loyal base of repeat customers. She belongs to networking groups – such as the Hamilton Femprenuers - a local group of women dedicated to helping each other and says that the word of mouth and referrals that have come from organizations like that have been priceless.

“I tend to still work with a lot of small businesses. I enjoy getting to know my clients and working with them in a personal, one-on-one way to help their businesses to grow is what I love most.”

Working with a CPA (certified professional accountant) means you are dealing with a certified professional who you can trust for a multitude of services – not just taxes! A CPA’s door is always open for tax questions, planning and for any audit help you may need.

“I pride myself on being very detail-oriented and thorough. It can be intimidating and daunting for some people so I try to be as approachable as I can be as well,” she says, adding that another benefit of dealing with a CPA means you have someone who is on top of things you might not even be aware of!
