Library to launch curbside pickup at four branches
Book lovers, rejoice.
Hamilton Public Library announced Thursday that it would be launching a “takeout” book service starting June 23 — the first phase in its reopening plan.
“While we know many resi- dents have utilized our en- hanced online services and col- lections, we understand Hamilton residents miss their library and we thank you for your patience. The takeout service provides customers new materials while putting in place safety precautions to slowly reopen,” said Paul Takala, CEO and chief librarian at Hamilton Public Library (HPL). “It’s vital to keep reading, watching and learning, while maintaining our community’s health and safety.”
Curbside pickup will be available for on-hold books, music and movies. Central Library, Red Hill, Terryberry and Dundas will be the first four branches to offer the service.
Holds placed prior to March 14, when HPL closed its doors and stopped circulation of its physical materials, will be available. New holds can be placed by logging into an online account or by calling 905-5463200.
In order to maintain physical distancing, library cardholders are encouraged to make an appointment in order to pick up materials. Appointments are available Tuesday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Appointments can be made starting June 15.
“Customers and staff are asked to maintain physical distancing. Hand-sanitizing stations are available at the four takeout branches,” a media release stated.
Appointments are for pickup only — returns will not be accepted by library staff. Returned items must be placed in drop-boxes outside of libraries, where they are put on a 72-hour hold in order to ensure safety. Library branches remain closed to the public.
