PEACE, Glen Guy

January 5, 1951 - January 9, 2021

Glen Peace passed away (at home) following a more than 4 year journey with cancer. Glen was born and raised in Hamilton. a city he loved. Glen leaves behind his wife Laura, in their 50th year of marriage, his two daughters, Jennifer (Marc Smith) and Kristen, as well as his two granddaughters Maddie and Ellie, who he adored. Glen will be missed by his sisters Donna Williams (Rocky) and Marie Nourse (Barrie), as well as his brother-in-law John Schumacher (Cindy) and his nieces, nephews and cousins. Glen had many close friends and neighbours who were a great support throughout his illness. Of course his daily companion for the last 7 years, Georgia May, will miss their walks and long conversations about life. Glen often suggested his life had been blessed since he began to date Laura at 17. He started working at 12 and entered the full time work force at 17 at Henderson Hospital. At 18, Glen commenced an apprenticeship at STELCO (Wilcox) where he remained until joining the Hamilton Fire Department in 1971. Glen rose through the ranks and after 25 years left Hamilton to become the Fire Chief of Burlington, where he remained until 1999. Glen was recruited to return to Hamilton as Chief to lead the Fire and EMS Services through the amalgamation process of 7 local governments to the new City of Hamilton. This amalgamation created not only one of the largest composite Fire Services in Canada, but one of Canada's highest rated. Glen's tenure in Emergency Services was followed by positions in senior management culminating in him becoming Hamilton's City Manager (CAO) for the last 5 years of his municipal service. On leaving the city, Glen taught at the college level, lectured across Canada and provided consultant services. On October 14th, 2009, Glen was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice where he remained a Justice of the Peace until his death. Glen praised the knowledge, commitment and dedication of those in the Justice System as they served the citizens of Ontario. He felt privileged to have made so many friends, colleagues and acquaintances. We will remember Glen's pure joy from our family trips to Disney World, his favourite place on earth, and his nightly talks with his best friend, Laura, on their swing bench in Aruba, We have so many wonderful memories that we will hold dear. Cremation and private family service has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please donate to McMaster Children's Hospital, Juravinski Cancer Clinic or St. Joseph's Hospital.
