BRANTFORD — Police have identified a 20-year-old man who was fatally shot overnight Wednesday.

Police say Isaiah Castillo of Brantford was shot inside a residence on Diana Avenue early Wednesday morning.

In a previous release, city police said officers and paramedics responded to a residence on Diana Avenue in Brantford shortly after midnight on Wednesday for reports of a man suffering from gunshot injuries. Emergency responders at the scene found the man in “serious condition.” He was transported to a local trauma centre but died of his injuries shortly after arrival.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted.

It remains unclear if Castillo lived at the home, who called 911 and if a weapon was recovered. Due to the status of the investigation, those details were “not available” as of Friday afternoon, said police spokesperson Robin Matthews-Osmond in an email.

Police have made no arrests in the case as of Friday afternoon. Investigators remain on scene and detectives are canvassing the area for potential witnesses and surveillance footage.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Diana Avenue between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and heard or saw anything “suspicious” to call the major crime unit at 519-7567050.
