Summer construction road closures to start Monday
Hamilton’s summer construction plans will close or alter traffic both on the Mountain and in the lower city.
A release from the city warns drivers and pedestrians that they may need to plan alternate routes at Rymal and Upper Wellington on the Mountain, and in the area of Charlton Avenue East and Wentworth Street South below the escarpment.
Down the Mountain, city construction crews are scheduled to repave Charlton Avenue East between Victoria and Wentworth, as well as Wentworth Street South between Charlton and Cumberland.
The resurfacing work begins Monday and should take about four weeks to complete.
In a release, the city said the work on Charlton and Wentworth includes road resurfacing with curb and sidewalk repairs.
The Claremont Access downbound exit to Charlton Avenue East will be closed during the construction, but the city says the Wentworth Stairs will still be open.
No HSR detours will be required.
On Hamilton Mountain, the intersection of Rymal Road East and Upper Wellington Street, as well as the area around, it are scheduled for closure and lane restrictions from Monday for about four days for a sewer bypass installation.
Ongoing upgrades in this area will also include the centre turn lane and bike lanes on Upper Wellington between Rymal and Dicenzo, which are not expected to be complete until into October.
HSR passengers on route 26 Upper Wellington and 44 Rymal might have minor delays, the city said.
More ongoing summer construction spots to be aware of around Hamilton include: á Sherman Mountain Access — west leg continues until midAugust; á South Service Road from Dewitt Road to Seaman Street until August; á Springside Drive at Alderlea Avenue (North of Alderlea Avenue) until October.
In Burlington, major road closures also start Monday and affect Walkers Line between No. 1 Side Road and No. 2 Side Road, until July 20.
