Were you waiting to see if the TigerCats would beat the Toronto Argos on Sunday before getting tickets to the Grey Cup?

Then you may be out of luck to catch the Ticats in the sold-out Grey Cup this weekend at Tim Hortons Field — unless you’re willing to shell out big money.

Tickets for the first hometown Grey Cup for the Ticats in 49 years — which ranged in price from $99 to $577 when they went on sale to the general public on Oct. 26 — will cost you up to $22,435 on the resale market.

The game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers sold out on Sunday, but the Ticats released an additional 500 standing-room tickets for the Twisted Tea Grey Cup Social area “due to the overwhelming demand for tickets,” the football club said in a release.

Those standing-room tickets sold out, too, and are now going for $247 on Ticketmaster’s resale platform.

A $19,000 resale ticket will land you a seat in the first two rows of Section 106, right behind the visitor’s bench at the 40-yard mark — a section the CFL labelled “platinum” when it sold them for $577.

Gold seats sold for $477, but Ticketmaster has listed them for at least double. The cheapest resale tickets on the platform hover around $450 for the 200s sections, though most sit around the $1,700 range.

The highest cost for a ticket The Spectator found was on StubHub, a ticket resale platform, with lower sideline tickets in Section 112 listed for $22,435 each — enough to cover three years’ worth of undergraduate tuition at McMaster University or $374 per minute of a 60-minute game.

If you managed to score tickets to the game — resale or otherwise — Tim Hortons Field requires patrons to provide proof of vaccination, wear a mask and practise physical distancing.

If not, there’s always 2023 when the Grey Cup returns to the city.
