The city has identified which roads and sidewalks projects will receive a share of $30 million in federal funds.

The funding is part of $32.7 million in one-time infrastructure funding from the federal gas tax. In July, council voted to divide the funding equally among the city’s 15 wards.

Councillors consulted with city departments to propose 42 projects, which are to be discussed at Thursday’s audit, finance and administration committee.

The biggest is a road resurfacing project in the Battlefield neighbourhood in Ward 5.

It includes portions of Avalon Avenue, Brandow Court, Charles Street and Randall Avenue. The project will include culvert replacements and require $2.13 million, although a detailed cost estimate is still required. The target completion is 2023.

A similar $2-million project is proposed for 2022 in the Falkirk East neighbourhood in Ward 14. It includes resurfacing portions of Falkirk Drive, Harvard Place, Marcel Place, Maynard

Street, McIntosh Avenue, and Roland Road.

A two-way conversion of Sherman Avenue from Wilson Street to Burlington Street is also proposed. The Ward 3 project would also involve resurfacing the artery and adding bike lanes. It’s pegged at $1.95 million. The project is expected to be completed in 2023 or later, in conjunction with other projects such as the reconstruction of Barton Street and Birch Avenue and LRT construction.

The city also proposes resurfacing and reconstruction on Limeridge Road from Garth Street to West 5th Street. The $1.9 million project in Ward 8 includes making the road more bike-friendly by installing a cycling facility (for example, a lane) with a potential cycling extension to Upper James Street. The target for completion is 2023.
