Societal cracks

-

The recent incident where a woman was pushed on to the Toronto subway tracks along with a rash of mass shootings in the U.S. point to a disturbing sign. Our ordered society seems to be cracking under the pressure of mental illness, homelessness, poverty, easy access to firearms and a loss of hope. While the TTC ponders special doors at a projected cost of $1.5 billion to prevent such incidents in the future, extremely wealthy people spend $55 million each for a ride into space. We all need to take a closer look around our local communities to see what needs to be done to fix the above problems and provide the resources to address these issues. If we ignore these problems, the time may come that our streets, transit systems and malls are more dangerous places to go.
