City hall secrets
Upon reading The Spec article on Red Hill public hearings, I was deeply disturbed to find that the city is arguing that approximately 87 documents should be considered privileged.
This is troubling. To start with, the municipality, as a public entity should be as transparent as possible in dealings with the public, most especially during an inquiry. All documents that are relevant should be included. Additionally, the whole Red Hill debacle is centred on hiding information from the public. The city subsequently lost significant public trust. The only way forward is to open the books and show exactly what happened, at what time, and with whom, so steps can be taken to ensure this kind of mismanagement cannot occur again, and hold the right people accountable.
