Asbestos breach closes MacNab
Students at Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School will return to class Wednesday after a probe into an asbestos breach in the building found limited potential for exposure. The disturbance to asbestoscontaining material at the Magnolia Drive school saw students sent home around 1 p.m. on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution. The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board said that the material was found in residual dust that had accumulated from contracting work done over the weekend. “Following the investigation, the environmental consultant indicated that the potential for exposure would be insignificant based on the nature of the disturbance and that no staff or students were present at the time of work,” the board said. The thin, non-friable compound of asbestos-containing material was located in some classrooms that have since been cleaned. Air sampling tests found acceptable levels to reoccupy the school.
