Shamed citizen

-

As a Hamiltonian for over 60 years, I have never been ashamed of my city until now. The decision to fire 500 unvaccinated workers because of their personal, private medical choice is an affront to decency and compassion.

In February, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health said vaccine mandates have “served their purpose.” Ontario has dropped its vaccine mandate. According to CP24, the Amalgamated Transit Union is vowing to fight this out-of-date mandate, which could cost taxpayers $500,000. As a taxpayer, I don’t want to foot the bill for this nonsensical decision.

They stated that, “It is irresponsible for this city council to cast a vote to terminate hard working employees, who have served on the front lines for the last two years during COVID-19, especially during times without any protection.”

Considering 94 per cent of city employees are fully vaccinated, is there really going to be a noticeable difference at 100 per cent? A big thank you to those councillors who voted against the extension of this mandate.
