Ageism a problem

-

Regarding “Ageism a barrier in the job market” (April 28): Being over 50 (53) and stuck in a deadend job that hasn’t given us a pay raise in over 10 years, (meanwhile the shareholders and CEO have no problem giving themselves bonuses), I’ve been applying to various postings so I can earn more, or have some opportunity for advancement.

The first of two examples where I’m positive I didn’t get a call or interview because of my age would be the HSR.

Having applied three times now and yet seeing the trainees out there being much younger than me hurts. The second would be Fortinos, where I applied for a few positions that they said I wasn’t qualified for, yet it’s the exact same job I’ve been doing for over 15 years. Go figure!

These companies post they want experienced, reliable staff, but seriously overlook the group of people who would exactly provide that.

Thank you to the Hamilton Council on Aging for bringing this issue to light. It truly is a problem.
