Not surprised
I was disturbed, but not surprised, to read about Stephen Lecce’s participation in a “slave auction” fundraiser when he was a student at Western University.
This incident is reminiscent of Justin Trudeau attending an “Arabian Nights” party wearing brownface as a university student in 2001.
Both events demonstrate the ongoing existence of racism, not only in public service, but in all facets of society, including those who claim to be “racism-free.”
Considering these actions, Lecce should step down as a PC candidate. It is only by holding politicians accountable that parties can eliminate the existing antiBlack racism and regain the trust of the public.
