Hamilton Civic Museums jointly present more than 100 annual events, programs and workshops. The following is a snapshot of some of the upcoming ‘holiday’ offerings, and a few of the more immersive opportunities.

This coming Family Day, February 20, check out the Model Train Show at the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology then head over to Battlefield House Museum to experience the work and play of an early Upper Canadian family. Start the afternoon at Dundurn National Historic Site and discover what it was like to live and play above stairs and work and live below stairs; then head over to the neighbouring Hamilton Military Museum for a self-guided experience with dress-up and hands-on activities. Begin your adventure at the Ancaster Old Town Hall to build and play with the Big Blue Blocks, designed to inspire children to create their own inventions, environments and activities. Finish the day’s journey with a family-friendly tour of Whitehern Historic House including interactive elements, historic children’s toys and family photo opportunities.

March Break at Hamilton Civic Museums delivers more family-oriented programming including: Engineering for Amusement Parks at the Steam Museum; The Art of Science presented by the Hamilton Children’s Museum at Dundurn National Historic Site; a Monumental March Break at Battlefield House, and Whitehern on Canvas with painting and crafts.

Those that truly want to immerse themselves in unique museum programming, may wish to take a Master Class in Stained Glass at Whitehern on March 11 to learn about window history, construction methods and to make your own piece of glass art to take home.

STEAM Saturdays Workshops engage kids in hands-on experiments addressing fun topics related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Participants also discover the historic Hamilton Waterworks and make a cool gadget to take home.

Experience the historic Hamilton Waterworks in a completely different light during special ‘After Dark’ tours on March 31 and April 1. Participants explore the fascinating 1859 Pumphouse and the rarely-seen basement of the 1913 Electric Pumphouse and experience what life would be like for a Victorian engineer working the evening shift at the Waterworks.
