His Last Mission
A 30-minute presentation on Flight Lt. David Ernest Hornell: His Last Mission is happening Saturday at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum at 11 a.m. The speaker session is followed by a Q&A on the Victoria Cross winner’s last mission of the Second World War. Admission is $16 for adults, $11 for youth ages six to 12 years. warplane.com
HMCS Star Centennial Ball
Dance the night away on Saturday at the HMCS Star Centennial Ball. Held in the Grand Ballroom at Liuna Station, 360 James St. N., this black tie fundraising event celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Oscar viewing
It’s Oscars weekend and The Westdale is hosting a viewing party Sunday. Watch the 95th Academy Awards on the big screen in Hamilton’s glorious Art Deco theatre. Dress to impress in red-carpet fashion or inspired by your favourite nominated movie. Everyone is welcome, so dressing up is optional. Hosted by Lyla Miklos, this Oscar party will have everything: drinks, theatre snacks, trivia, prizes, a best-dressed contest, an excellent old-fashioned Oscar prediction pool, and of course, a live screening of the awards.
Tickets at the door are by suggested donation to The Westdale $2, $5 or $10. Advance tickets are $2. The Oscars start at 8 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tower Poetry Society
A TPS workshop is held on the second Saturday of each month at the Westdale Library. Read a poem for review or come listen in at the workshop on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
